Soil Retention Products, Inc. First to Obtain ESR to the 2015 I-Codes

Soil Retention Products, Inc. successfully obtained its ICC-ES Evaluation Report (ESR-3073) for the Verdura Retaining Wall System to the 2015 International Building Code® (IBC). The Verdura Retaining Wall System consists of modular concrete units used in the construction of segmental landscaping and retaining walls, with or without reinforced soil stabilized by horizontal layers of geosynthetic reinforcement (geogrid) materials. ESR-3073 also holds a 2013 California Building Code (CBC) supplement, which verifies they are in compliance with Chapter 18A (Soils and Foundations) of the CBC.“In this very competitive market, it was important to us to have an ICC-ES evaluation report for our Verdura Retaining Wall System as quickly as possible,” said Darian Osborne, Senior Project Engineer, Soil Retention Products, Inc. “The ICC-ES engineer we worked with was efficient, technically knowledgeable of our product and completed our new report within three months of applying for the expedited service. Having an ICC-ES evaluation report in such a short amount of time has allowed us to quickly market our product and acquire new customers.”

The 2015 I-Codes address design and installation of innovative materials and encourage the use of new and smarter technological advances. ICC-ES evaluates innovative products to the requirements of the 2015 codes, providing code officials with proof of code compliance when approving a product or system. Other manufacturers who hold ICC-ES ESRs are also in the process of updating their reports to ensure product acceptance in the field by demonstrating code compliance when used and installed as stated in the report.

“We encourage manufacturers to comply with the most current codes for expanded market acceptance,” said ICC-ES President Shahin Moinian, P.E. “As a subsidiary of the International Code Council (ICC), ICC-ES has the technical knowledge and resources to help manufacturers comply with the 2015 I-Codes in a timely manner.”

ICC has published a series of books on the Significant Changes to the International Codes to the 2015 I-Codes. They are available through the ICC Store for manufacturers and code officials who would like to learn more about how they may affect code compliance of products.
