Many customers with ICC-ES reports and building product listings can now obtain recognition for use in Canada
BREA, CALIF.— ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), the experts in building and plumbing product evaluation and certification, has had its scope of accreditation widely expanded by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) to include evaluation of many new product classifications to the provisions of standards referenced by the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC).This latest expansion of ICC-ES’ Scope of Accreditation includes
- Bolts, screws, studs
- Nails, staples
- Wood-protecting chemicals
- Wood, sawlogs and sawn lumber, including Structural Composite Lumber (SCL) and Cross-laminated Timber (CLT)
- Wood-based panels, including hardwood and decorative plywood
- Roofing products and materials
- Doors and windows
- Wood truss metal-connector plates
- Thermal and sound insulating materials
- Earthworks, excavations, foundation construction, underground works
These represent the latest in the full list of 51 categories for which ICC-ES is now accredited by the SCC in Canada.
This significant SCC scope extension allows numerous ICC-ES report and listing holders to apply for recognition under the National Building Code of Canada and allows their products to be used in building projects throughout the Canadian territories.
This is great news for many manufacturers seeking Canadian distribution for their building and plumbing products, components, and systems, according to ICC-ES Quality Systems Director David Pereg, P.E. “Canada is an attractive and robust market, and ICC-ES’ ability to provide a wide range of product certifications for Canada will greatly benefit ICC-ES customers,” he said. “We are proud to be able to continually roll out new options that help our customers succeed.”
The Building Products Listing Program and PMG Products Listing Program for the Canadian market provides manufacturers a way to indicate to code officials, designers and specifiers that products comply with consensus standards referenced in the National Building Code of Canada. Manufacturers can go to jurisdictions in both the U.S. and Canada and have their products readily approved by code officials of the two countries.
