ASTM D882 – Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Sheeting

ASTM D882 - Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Sheeting

Standard: ASTM D882 Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Sheeting

Scope: Per ASTM D882: " This test method covers the determination of tensile properties of plastics in the form of thin sheeting and films (less than 1.0 mm (0.04 in.) in thickness)."

Products: Plastic sheeting (less than 1.0 mm thick)

Procedure: Rectangular strip-type specimens are prepared and placed into the grips of the test machine. The test machine pulls the specimens in tension at a specified grip separation rate until failure. Throughout the test, load and deflection (or stress and strain) measurements are taken in order to characterize the materials under test.

Result: Test results such as breaking factor, tensile strength, tensile yield strength, modulus of elasticity, and elongation may be reported.
