La Junta Directiva asesora a ICC-ES en asuntos comerciales. El Director Ejecutivo de la CPI recomienda a los designados para su ratificación por la Junta Directiva de la CPI. Diez miembros actualmente sirven en la Junta Directiva, quienes, como oficiales de código, arquitectos e ingenieros, ofrecen muchos años de experiencia trabajando con la aplicación de código. Jack Applegate has been a Building Official serving the northwestern U.S. since 1998, serving multiple jurisdictions in Oregon and Washington over the last 22-plus years. Over the years he has worked as an inspector, plans examiner, building official and for eight years worked as a city fire marshal and code enforcement officer. With two previous generations of family serving as code officials and a son serving as a new code official, it is fair to say it has been a family tradition to help others by building safety.

Scott is the Vice President of Global Structural System Technology for MiTek where he has served in escalating engineering roles for 24 years in both design and research and development. Scott’s primary focus today is in new solution development to improve the way buildings are built from design to fabrication to assembly with a goal of improving affordability and sustainability. Scott currently serves on the ICC-ES board of managers and Industry Advisory Committee. He is also active with a number of other industry organizations including: the School of Engineering advisory board for Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, IL; he represents MiTek as a founding partner of the Wood Utilization and Design Institute at Clemson University; he is the current secretary of the board for the Truss Plate Institute; he is a member of both the ASCE and the NCSEA. Scott has also served for a number of years as a member of the Industrial Professional Advisory committee for the School of Civil Engineering for SIUE.

Hussain Bhatia, Ph.D., S.E, is the Supervisor for the Coastal Region for the Department of Health Care Access and Information, State of California (formerly Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, OSHPD) and serves as the Incident Commander for the Emergency Operation Center for the department. Dr. Bhatia has 24 years of experience in structural engineering and design. He has been involved in design, analysis and review of new and existing hospital, school and commercial buildings. He has taught courses related to structural engineering in University of California, Irvine, University of California, Los Angeles and California State University in Sacramento. He actively participates in many code committees for ASCE 7 and ASCE 41, and professional organizations such as SEAOC, ASCE and EERI.
Michael Abegg, P.E., CBO

During his time at the City of Phoenix, Mr. Abegg has served as a Team Lead, Fire Marshal, Building Official, IBC Technical Lead and Senior Structural Plans Engineer. His responsibilities have included: Project Management; Fire Marshal Appeals; Code Modifications; Technical Interpretations; Alternate Materials, Design and Methods of Construction; plan review and inspection efforts and internal policies and procedures. In addition to maintaining the Certified Building Official certificate, he has ICC certifications in Residential and Commercial plans review and inspection as well as Accessibility and Energy plan review. Prior to his time at the City of Phoenix, Mr. Abegg worked as a Structural Design Engineer including residential and commercial projects. Mr. Abegg holds a B.S. and M.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Brigham Young University. He is a Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Arizona. In his free time, Mr. Abegg enjoys spending time with his wife and three young boys.

Phipps, a certified building official and floodplain manager, is a building official for the city of Inman, S.C., and business development manager at Code Consulting and Inspection Services LLC. He sees his election to as another opportunity and challenge to provide service. Phipps has served on the the International Code Council Board of Directors, the ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) Committee, the Council of American Building Officials, the Board of International Professional Standards, as well as the ICC-ES Board of Managers. He is active in the Building Officials Association of South Carolina and has served on its board as well as president. He served on the South Carolina Building Codes Council as vice-chair and on the board of directors of the Code Council legacy organization the Southern Building Codes Congress International.

Mr. Kimball is a licensed civil, structural, and fire protection engineer as well as an International Code Council (ICC) Master Code Professional. He is certified by ICC as a building official, fire code official, combination plans examiner, combination building inspector, and more. He received his master’s degree with an emphasis in structural engineering and has performed plan reviews for thousands of projects throughout the United States. Mr. Kimball is an approved ICC instructor who regularly provides code training to building officials, design professionals, and contractor organizations throughout the United States. His 25+ years of experience is priceless in an industry rapidly losing experienced professionals.

He spent 20 years with the wood products industry, then joined ICC-ES as the Environmental Programs Director. Over the past 15 years, he has consulted with the foam plastics industry regarding code compliance and development in both US and Canada.

Scott McCormick is a Fire Official / Fire SubCode Official, in Hamilton, NJ, who is responsible for fire prevention inspections for existing commercial properties and is also in charge of the Fire Protection SubCode for all new and renovated buildings in New Jersey’s eighth-largest municipality. With a thirty-year fire code enforcement career, McCormick started as a young field inspector working up to the Fire Code Official for Trenton, the Capital of New Jersey and then on to his dream job in his hometown of Hamilton, New Jersey as the First Fire Official for the newly created Fire Division. McCormick is a New Jersey licensed Fire Official, Fire Protection SubCode Official which includes fire plans examiner, a New Jersey Licensed Construction Official, and a New Jersey and NAFI Certified Fire Investigator. He holds an AAS Degree in Fire Science and has served on several code development committees, the Fire Code Action Committee, and most recently served on the AdHoc Committee that drafted the ICC Building Safety and Security Report.
