Already a Standards Council of Canada accredited product certification body, this new service allows ICC-ES to aid in the growth of Canada’s building innovation and facilitate more efficient construction during a critical period of housing shortage across the country.
Ottawa, Canada – ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) is proud to announce that it is expanding its Evaluation Service Reports, commonly known as an “ESRs”, to the Canadian market. This new service follows the addition of David Beauchamp, Manager ES Canada to the ICC-ES family. David joins the team with 10 years of experience in construction product testing and certification to Canadian standards, and an additional 10 years of experience in Canadian code evaluations with the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC).
As a non-profit organization with a public safety mission, more than 90 years in code evaluation experience, and more than 5,000 certifications issued in 50+ countries, ICC-ES reports are proven to increase capacity for innovation. With a global footprint, more than 200 staff and over 1,500 product evaluations the ICC-ES is one of the largest code evaluation bodies to serve the Canadian market through certification of innovative products based on transparently-developed criteria subjected to public review and approved by Canadian building officials. The expanded capacity for innovation in Canada will save construction authorities time in approvals and facilitate new products and building techniques that reduce construction time and cost. During a time when Canada faces a housing supply shortage, and building more homes faster is top of mind, ICC-ES seeks to provide national-level product evaluations that lower interprovincial and international trade barriers and reduce regulatory costs and time.
As part of this expansion, ICC-ES is creating a committee of Canadian building officials to review Canadian Acceptance Criteria, based on the National Building, Fire, Plumbing and Energy Codes that will be the foundation of Canadian code evaluations. There is currently a call for expression of interest for building official committee members from all provinces and territories who would like to support the adoption of innovation in Canada. Interested parties should submit an application by May 31, 2025 to be considered.
Manufacturers interested in obtaining a code evaluation for Canada through ICC-ES should contact their existing account manager or engineer, or reach out to ES-Canada@icc-es.org, for more information.
Building officials or industry associations seeking more information are invited to contact David Beauchamp at dbeauchamp@icc-es.org. Look for ICC-ES at industry events like BuildEx Alberta, The Buildings Show Toronto, BuildEx Vancouver, and various Canadian building official association conferences.
